Infoplease.com...

Has published historical facts dating back to 1900.  I clicked on the year I was born and found out:
  • I was born on a Monday
  • Nixon ended the US trade embargo against China
  • The Twenty-sixth amendment to the constitution lowered the voting age to 18
  • Cost of a first class stamp was $0.06 and
  • The US Supreme Court ruled unanimously that busing of students may be order to achieve racial desegregation....

GOOGLE Feed Burner

I'm now trying to "ping" all my feeds to one centralized locations.  I found a site acquired by Google called FeedBurner.google.com that allowed me to sign up to their service to post my blog for everyone to view and allows me subscribe to some of my favorite sites.  All this is still so new to me, so I may be creating duplicate "ping" pages, but making a mess is sometimes the only way to learn, for me that is...

Larger and Small viewing of webpages

Do you ever have trouble viewing text on pages your reading?  Well, I do, a lot.  Well, you will love this shortcut I'm going to share with you.  There just as simple as:
  • CTRL + (makes page larger when viewing a website)
  • CTRL - (makes page smaller when viewing a website)
I use these a lot, and thought it would be good to share this will you too...

What Does RSS Feed Mean?

So, I'm learning so much more than I bargained for by searching the web to complete my Learn 2.0 Project, 23 New Technological Things to Learn.
I've never been a real tech savvy lady, but I've enjoyed stringing RSS feeds to my google page, and having all I want in one click.
I've discovered that, according to WIKI, RSS Feed is a document (which is called a "feed", "web feed" or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship.  Web feeds benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favorite websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place.
Users subscribe to a feed by entering the feeds URI (often referred to non-technically as a URL) into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process.  The RSS reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads any updates that it finds, and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.

Print What You Like

Have you ever tried to print something from a website, and got garbage thrown back at you? stuff you never intend to print in the first place? A waist of paper is all you've accomplished.  Well, if anyone is interested, there is a wonderful website called printwhatyoulike.com .  This site lets you enter a url on its page, and remove unwanted information to print only what you need.

I tried it out and really enjoyed the ease of selecting and removing unwanted text, and then printing exactly what I needed, although I'm sure this has to be a copyright infringement somewhere along the way.  Try it out one day and let me know what  you think of it...

Thursday Blues...

Today is a somewhat stressful day for me - it seems I have a lot of anxiety going on as school come to a wrap-up, and very quickly I might add.

Learning how to balance school, work and family life is a horrendous chore, and at times, extremely stressful.

Taking it day by day, and having good friends to talk to helps. . .    A lot. . .

MADReads - 72 Hour Hold

MADreads is a link on the Madison Public Library's page that allows public library staff to write reviews of books they've read and want to share with anyone visiting the page, looking for reviews written by, well, Librarians. Well, I had listened to a intriguing book titled 72 Hour Hold by Bebe Moore Campbell that I had downloaded onto my MP3 player from Overdrive, a subscription database that has audio and video files that can be downloaded. So I purchased my self a pink MP3 and downloaded the audiobook, and really enjoyed the freedom of listening while walking/eating/relaxing/cooking/cleaning - I mean, man, this was a great experience! So, with that being said, take a look at my MADReads review, and maybe you'll consider the audio download too...

Beale Street, Memphis TN

My daughter took a trip to Memphis TN the earlier part of the year with a group called Campaign Against Violence, and while on Beale Street, she videoed this little guy doing flips down the street. He made him some cash in the process, but I imagine he had to be dizzy...

Video watching on the web

Okay, I must admit, I'm a HUGE Young and the Restless fan, and enjoy watching the videos on the Internet because there are fewer commercials.  If your a fan of online entertainment, try going to FANCAST.COM.  This site has a wide array of retro and recent videos to look at.  It's one of my favorite sites.  Have fun

Betsy Proctor Scholarship Award

I was very thankful to be the recipient of the Betsy Proctor Scholarship Award this year. Betsy Proctor was an exceptional librarian I heard. Always pleasant, patient, knowledgeable and very helpful.
With me to accept the award this year are Betsy Proctors family members and library staff persons.
From l to r: Betsy's Niece in black, her Sister next, then Barb Dimick, Director of Madison Public Library, Madison WI, Kim Williams (me), Betsy's Nephew and then Judy Olson, long time individual on Library Board and MPL Foundation Committees.

New Beginnings....

I know you've heard it all before, but this is new for me! I'm getting butterflies in my stomach as I try to complete this assignment, which is called "Learning 2.0".

My understanding is I need to create a blog and learn, post and explore new technological tools available to everyone~ you know, expand the mind....

So, here I go, and here you go too as we take this journey on exploratory technological advances together...

Thanks for hanging out with me...

Until next time,
Kim
